Show Time
It’s again the last week(s) of the summer term, which means that the degree shows are here! The past few days we’ve visited many CSM exhibitions among others, but naturally most of my time has gone browsing through the very interesting and inspiring works of this spring’s graphic design graduates.

However having seen students from various disciplines displaying their final projects it really struck me; the most professional and convincing presentations or productions hardly came from the graphic design pathway. It seems to me that people studying for example industrial design have often much clearer vision how to sell their product (and ideas) to the viewer. Why is it so?
I also noticed that the students’ physical presence and active engagement with the audience shouldn’t also be regarded in the private views. The next person might as well be your future employer or a prospective client.

The most atmospheric exhibition space we’ve visited this far has been the MA Creative Practice for Narrative Environments’ installation that took place at the underground garage between the two main buildings on Southampton Row (image above). The pouring rain dropping on all sides of the space might have also given our experience an extra flavour.
The CSM BA Graphic Design show is still on near Liverpool Street station until June 22nd. I really recommend to pay a visit. Remember to also check the great photography works downstairs! The timetable and locations for rest of the CSM degree shows are listed here. Oh, and if you are down at Shoreditch and want to see more photography, Free Range at Truman Brewery is hosting also some pretty nice work, mostly by Nottingham Trent University and the University of Westminster’s graduates.
A big thank you for taking pictures goes to my lovely girlfriend Hanna. As you can see this left my hands free for touching stuff, even when it wasn’t always permitted, oops…
